Should Banks allow Customer ID to be used as Log In ID for NetBanking

Almost all public sector and private sector Banks in India are offering Net Banking Facilities to its customers. Most of the Banks are in the habit of allocating USER ID as CUST ID which is very dangerous and is not in the interest of their customers. Pass Books, Statement of accounts carry the Cust ID which are virtually Login ID's easily accessible to the  employees of the customers and that of Banks. There is every likelihood of misusing this information ...........as persons having access to classified information .......visit the net banking page of the Bank and try to LOG IN with the Cust ID with an intention to harm the interests of the Customer ..........can block the net banking ........by Logging in with unknown Log in Password ......and the customer's account will be blocked with continuous wrong attempts.....which can cause business loss to the Customers of the Bank in the shape of Net Banking facilities jammed intentionally or unintentionally. LOG IN ID MUST BE DIFFERENT FROM CUST ID AND CUSTOMER SHOULD HAVE THE FACILITY TO CREATE HIS/HER/THEIR ON LOGIN ID AS IS BEING OFFERED BY STATE BANK GROUP AND YES BANK. Banks like HDFC, PNB and many more banks do not provide this facility to their net banking customers though High Security Checks are there. But such blocking of net banking facility will create Business Loss and Harassment to the customers. To overcome this HDFC has come out with ONLINE generation of password for immediate activation of net banking facility in case of Forgot Password but Facility jammed due to wrong password can be got activated by visiting the Bank Branch. All Bank's must provide both the features in their net banking ..... which will be the channel for all financial transactions in the future. All Bank Customers ,who agree with me, must email this post to their respective Bankers for immediate solutions before it is too late.

Update by Author: This article was published in 2012 and in being updated now. In the last more than 3 years most of the banks have allowed their customers to have User or Login ID of their choice instead of using Customer ID as their User ID or Log In ID and State Bank of India was first to follow suit. If your banker is not allowing to change your User or Login ID of your choice then discuss with your Bank about the possible risks involved in using Customer ID as user or login ID.
